Choosing the Right Dumpster
Picking the right dumpster isn't complicated, but a little planning goes a long way. Three factors determine which container makes sense for your project: the type of work you're doing, the volume of debris you expect, and the materials involved.
What Kind of Project Is It?
Different projects generate different amounts and types of waste. A bathroom remodel produces far less debris than a whole-home renovation. A roofing tear-off generates heavy, bulky material that fills a container faster than a garage cleanout. And new construction produces a steady accumulation of scraps and packaging over weeks or months.
Knowing the scope of your project helps narrow down the right size quickly.
How Much Debris Will You Generate?
This is where most people second-guess themselves, and that's okay.
Here's a general guide:
- A single room's worth of renovation debris: 15-yard dumpster (about 6.5 pickup truck loads). Includes dump fees up to 2,000 lbs.
- A kitchen remodel, roof tear-off, or multi-room renovation: 20-yard dumpster (about 9 pickup truck loads). Includes dump fees up to 4,000 lbs.
- A major renovation, new home build, or full property cleanout: 30-yard dumpster (about 13 pickup truck loads). Includes dump fees up to 6,000 lbs.
- Concrete, asphalt, dirt, or rock removal: 12-yard heavy-duty dumpster (about 5 pickup truck loads). Reinforced frame, 20,000-lb weight limit.
Are Heavy Materials Involved?
Standard dumpsters are designed for construction debris, household items, and general waste. If your project involves pouring out a driveway, removing a patio, or excavating, those materials must go in our 12-yard heavy-duty container. Mixing heavy materials into a standard dumpster creates weight compliance and safety issues.
Still not sure what you need? Call us. We do this every day, and we'll point you to the right container.
Accepted & Prohibited Materials
What goes in our standard dumpsters:
Drywall, lumber, flooring, roofing shingles, carpet, tile, cabinetry, countertops, siding, insulation, furniture, mattresses, household items, yard debris, fencing materials, and general construction or renovation waste.
What goes in our heavy-duty dumpster only:
Concrete, asphalt, dirt, rock, and broken hardscape. These are too dense for standard containers and must be loaded separately in our 12-yard reinforced unit.
What can't go in any dumpster:
Hazardous waste (paint, chemicals, solvents, motor oil, pesticides), batteries, propane tanks, tires, electronics, and appliances containing freon. If you're not sure whether something qualifies, ask us. We're happy to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have.
Why Meridian Customers Choose Us
Meridian has no shortage of dumpster rental options. National franchises, valley-wide haulers, and smaller operators all serve the area. So what makes us different?
We come from the trades. Most dumpster companies are logistics operations. We have more than four decades of experience in excavation, demolition, and trucking. That means we understand the pressure of project timelines, the reality of job site coordination, and what it actually takes to keep a project moving. When you call us, you're talking to people who know what's involved.
We mean what we quote. Our pricing includes delivery, pickup, and dump fees up to the included weight limit. Overage rates are disclosed upfront. There are no hidden fees or creative line items designed to inflate your invoice after the fact. Plus, we're fully licensed and insured. Every delivery, every pickup, and every load is covered.
We're local and accountable. We're based in Melba and serve Meridian as part of our core Ada and Canyon County coverage. If something goes wrong or you need to change plans, you're calling a local team, not a dispatch center in another state.
Most importantly, we operate on our values. Our Christian faith guides how we run our business. That means honest communication, fair pricing, respectful service, and a commitment to treating every customer the way we'd want to be treated.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I choose the right dumpster?
The best size depends on your project type, debris volume, and available space. Our team asks a few questions about what you are throwing away and how long you will be working, then suggests a container that fits your needs without excessive unused space.
Will the dumpster damage my driveway or yard?
Our drivers place dumpsters carefully and use modern trucks to reduce unnecessary stress on surfaces. We discuss placement options with you in advance so you can choose the location that balances convenience and protection.
How far in advance should I book a dumpster?
Calling a few days ahead usually allows us to offer more options for delivery times, especially during busy seasons. If you have a firm start date for a project, it helps to schedule as soon as you know it. We work to accommodate short-notice requests and same-day delivery whenever possible.
What can I put in the dumpster? What is restricted?
You can typically load household junk and construction debris like wood, drywall, flooring, and roofing. Items such as liquids, paints, certain electronics, and appliances with refrigerant are often restricted. We go over specific materials with you before delivery so you know what is acceptable for your container.
Can I put roofing shingles in a standard dumpster?
Roofing shingles are accepted in our standard 15-yard, 20-yard, and 30-yard containers. Just keep in mind that shingles are heavy. A full roof tear-off can approach or exceed the included weight limit, especially on larger Meridian homes. If you know you'll have roofing materials in your container, talk to us about your options and whether a 12-yard heavy-duty dumpster might be a better fit.
What if I need more than one dumpster?
That's common on larger jobs. We can schedule multiple deliveries, arrange a container swap (pick up a full one and drop off an empty one), or have two containers on-site simultaneously if your property has the space. Let us know the scope, and we'll plan accordingly.
Do you offer any other services?
Yes. In addition to dumpster rentals, we offer flatbed transport and material delivery (rock, gravel, soil, and more) in Ada County and Canyon County. If your Meridian project needs materials brought in as well as debris hauled out, we can handle both.
